NAMIBIAN HIGH COMMISSIONER TOURS EASTERN REGION TO STRENGTHEN BILATERAL TIES
Mrs. Selma Ashipala Musayvi, Namibia’s High Commissioner to Ghana, began a two-day familiarization tour of the Eastern Region by meeting with Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III, Chief of Akwamu Traditional Area, on Monday.
Starting in the Asuogyaman District, which houses Akosombo and numerous tourist attractions like the Akosombo Dam, Akwamuman Museum, Dodi Island, Akwamu Gorge, Adomi Bridge, World of Dodi, and the Akosombo Industrial Company Limited (formerly known as Akosombo Textile Limited), among others, the tour aims to strengthen bilateral relations and explore business opportunities between Ghana and Namibia.
“The two nations are close and are committed to enhancing their economic standings,” Mrs. Musayvi remarked, adding that her regional visit would inform her on connecting business communities from Namibia and Ghana upon her return to Accra.
She encouraged women in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to leverage the benefits of the African Continental Free Trade Area, facilitating a continental single market for goods and services and fostering free movement of businesspeople and investments, ultimately contributing to the establishment of Continental Customs Union and African Customs Union.
Expressing gratitude for the High Commissioner’s visit, Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III pledged support for all developmental initiatives in the region.
Mr. Dela Gadzanku, Chairman of the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) for Volta, Oti, and Eastern Regions, highlighted the association’s role in bolstering industrial growth and development.
Following her visit to Asuogyaman District, the Namibian High Commissioner met with Mr. Seth Kwame Acheampong, Eastern Regional Minister, who acknowledged progress in the government’s One District, One Factory initiative and expressed interest in learning about Namibia’s animal husbandry structure. Mr. Acheampong emphasized the importance of livestock in economic activities but noted security concerns around it.
He welcomed the High Commissioner and hoped for strengthened relations between the region and Namibia’s High Commission.
The Namibian High Commissioner’s tour will continue to other districts in the region on Tuesday, March 28, 2023.
