NAMIBIAN HIGH COMMISSIONER EXPLORES INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITIES IN CENTRAL REGION
The Namibian High Commissioner’s recent activities included visits to the Holy Child School and Adisadel College, where she engaged with students and school authorities, focusing on gender empowerment, mentoring, and coaching, especially for young girls. This initiative aimed to foster educational partnerships between schools, particularly Senior High schools in Cape Coast’s academic city and their counterparts in Namibia for exchange programs and academic collaborations.
Additionally, the High Commissioner explored business engagements, including a visit to the Ekumfi Fruits and Juices factory, and paid respects to Osabarima Kwesi Atta II, Omanhen of Oguaa Traditional Area, to explore cultural and traditional ties.
During discussions with Mrs. Justina Marigold Assan, the Regional Minister, the High Commissioner emphasized the importance of consolidating bilateral relations between Ghana and Namibia. This led to the signing of a General Cooperation Framework Agreement, establishing the Permanent Joint Commission for Cooperation (PJCC) in 2022 to facilitate bilateral relations across various sectors.
The High Commissioner highlighted the growing trading relationship between the two countries, with potential for expanded trade relations within the Southern and Western African regions. Furthermore, joint efforts at major international institutions like the African Union and the United Nations have yielded mutual benefits.
Both countries aim to enhance bilateral trade within the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) context to boost economic recovery post-COVID-19. The High Commissioner emphasized economic complementarities and encouraged the private sectors of Namibia and Ghana to capitalize on investment opportunities, particularly in agro-processing, tourism, real estate, and ICT sectors.
Expressing a commitment to women’s empowerment, the High Commissioner stressed its significance in fostering social and economic development. Mrs. Assan acknowledged the engagement as pivotal in deepening bilateral ties, urging investors to explore diverse investment opportunities in the region beyond tourism, such as agro-processing, real estate, and ICT, to create more job opportunities and expand markets.
